If you are anything like myself, coconut oil is a staple in your pantry – but don’t be fooled, coconut oil has uses that extend far beyond the kitchen. There are so many cosmetic uses for this oil that I just need to share with you, so here are my top five cosmetic uses for coconut oil.
Using this one ingredient as an overnight hair mask is a huge player when it comes to growing long, luscious locks. All you need to do is completely coat your hair with coconut oil and wash it out the next morning.I like to warm the oil in my hands before applying and then braid my hair once the oil has been applied. I also make sure to wrap my pillow in a towel when I hit the sheets to keep the oil from absorbing into my bedding.
Pro Tip: Shampoo the hair twice the next morning to make sure you remove all of the oil to avoid a greasy mane.
Coconut oil is a great base for a body scrub. Simply melt half a cup of coconut oil and add in one cup of an exfoliant of choice – I tend to go for a mix of brown sugar and coffee grounds. This usually makes enough for two or three uses and should keep for about a week if you store it in an airtight container.
The winter weather can wreak havoc on our skin, leading to dryness and texture issues. Slather coconut oil all over for some serious moisturization not to mention you’ll smell delicious, too.
EYE MAKEUP REMOVER
Use a cotton pad, or Q-Tip, saturated with coconut oil to remove your makeup. This is a great alternative to store bought remover. I wouldn’t recommend this method for you babes with oily or combination skin types since it could lead to oil buildup in the pores.
EYEBROW & EYELASH TREATMENT
Not only is coconut oil a great moisturizing treatment for the hair on your head, but your eyebrows and eyelashes too. Simply use a Q-Tip to apply the oil and wipe away with a soaked cloth after a few hours, or sleep with the product on and remove the next morning.
If you love a great multi-use product, Coconut Oil is right up your alley. It’s inexpensive and you can find it at any local supermarket or drugstore. Lately, I’ve been using an organic virgin coconut oil by the brand Nutiva which you can purchase here.
Let me know how you use your coconut oil!
